Asghar Ali Engineer is a well-known Indian scholar who has published more than 40 books on Islam, problems of Muslims, rights of Muslim women, and communal and ethnic problems in India and South Asia. He is the founder and chairman of the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism, Bombay. He also edits the quarterly journal Indian Journal of Secularism.
