The Weekly Reading Seminar Series seeks to bring together young university faculty and other interested individuals and engage them in critical scholarly debate in a particular thematic area. It has been conceived as an interdisciplinary platform for continuous academic engagement in order to make the teaching and learning experience a challenging and rewarding one for the faculty as well as their students.
A total of 8 weekly sessions will be held on each theme and led by a senior scholar. The Seminar Series will use original texts to introduce the themes and the participants will be expected to attend the seminars having gone through the readings that will be provided beforehand and take active part in the discussions.
These seminars are primarily meant for university and college teachers but other individuals with at least a master’s degree may also apply. Participants are required to have a good command of English to comprehend the readings provided although the discussions at the seminar will be conducted in both English and Nepali.
Participants have the option of attending one or both the seminars. The seminars will be held at the Nepā School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Chabahil, from 6:30 to 8:30 am, and the first of the seminars will begin on 9 April, 2012. The seminars are subsidised by a grant from the Open Society Foundations, but participants will be expected to pay a participation fee of NRS 1200 per seminar. The participation fee is for the entire seminar and includes the cost of the reading packet.
