Arjun Kharel

Research Fellow

Arjun Kharel is a sociologist with training on qualitative and quantitative research methods. He holds a PhD and an MA in Sociology from Kansas State University, USA and an MA in English and a BA in English and Political Science from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. For his doctoral dissertation, he explored how/whether women’s participation in international labor migration restructures the dominant discourse on female migration in Nepal, ‘Female Labor Migration and the Restructuring of Migration Discourse: A Study of Female Workers from Chitwan, Nepal’.

At CESLAM, Arjun is engaged in planning, designing and conducting research projects on different social issues but primarily related to labour and migration. He has extensive experience of teaching graduate and undergraduate sociology courses, and supervising students on thesis projects in different universities in Nepal and abroad. His research interests and expertise include migration, development, agriculture and food system, social change, social movements, health and wellbeing, and evaluation of development projects.
