Support for Formulation of the National Employment Policy
Supported by: The German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Following a request from the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) to the ILO to provide technical assistance to revise the existing Labour and Employment Policy of 2005 in line with current government priorities and plans, Bandita Sijapati from Centre for Study of Labour and Mobility (CESLAM) at Social Science Baha was commissioned to assist in the drafting of the Employment Policy by preparing a background document on issues relating to employment in Nepal. The main objective of the study was to outline the situation of the labour market in Nepal, highlighting the key constraints and challenges related to employment-centric growth, and providing recommendations for the formulation of the new employment policy. The study has been published as Enhancing Employment-centric Growth in Nepal: Situational Analysis for the Proposed Employment Policy, Government of Nepal (ILO, 2014).
