The report Safeguarding the Rights of Street Vendors in Kathmandu Valley provides a comprehensive overview of the socio-economic conditions of street vendors as well as their legal status. The report throws light on the types of vendors, their modes of operation, socio-economic backgrounds, and working conditions. Furthermore, the report outlines major challenges, including the difficulties street vendors face in terms of attaining legal status and accessing social protection measures, such as contributory social security schemes. It also encapsulates the key challenges duty-bearers face in managing and regularising street vending businesses. The study puts forward potential measures to effectively manage these activities as well as to ensure that street vendors’ access to social protection is fulfilled and that all social and economic rights enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal 2015 and other relevant laws and policies are well realised in the case of street vendors.
