Changing Dynamics of Nepali Society and Politics
(organised by Social Science Baha in collaboration with Alliance for Social Dialogue and Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies)
17-19 August 2011
The international conference, ‘Changing Dynamics of Nepali Society and Politics’, was held in Kathmandu on 17-19 August, 2011. The conference was hosted jointly by the Alliance for Social Dialogue (ASD) and Social Science Baha (SSB) with the support of the Swiss Confederation and Open Society Foundation/Foundation Open Society Institute.
The conference was organised as part of an attempt to understand the tremendous changes Nepal has undergone in the past twenty years since the first restoration of democracy in 1990 by bringing together scholars who have been examining this issue form multiple perspectives. In order to assure representation of the various aspects of this transformation, the organisers decided to adopt a two-pronged approach. The first was to put out an open call for papers using the electronic mailing lists of SSB and ANHS and also other partner organisations such as the Britain Nepal Academic Council. The second was to target specific academics asking them to present papers on the topic of their interest.
